I recently reviewed the February My Greeting Box, which contained three charming and whimsical designs! This particular box was timed for Mother’s Day, though you could use them for almost any occasion. I think they will be perfect to add to my card stash, and who knows, I might even give one to my mother next week!
I decided to make the Glitter Heart Card as I loved the cheerful rainbows. (You can see all three designs here.)
As well as supplies such as paper, stamps, and ink for this month’s card, you also use items from previous boxes. I needed the black inkpad from the November box and the pen from the January box.
The February box contained a very useful ruler, as measuring is a very important part of making cards! Of course I’ve just used one of the several rulers we have scattered around the house, but I’m very pleased to now have a dedicated cardmaking ruler. (I’ve also hidden it from my daughter, who has a tendency to make my stationery disappear!)
I love using acrylic stamps! I’m building up a very nice collection, and these are particularly cute. The acrylic block came with the the starter kit in the first November box. I’m also getting much better at making even prints, though they’re not perfect yet.
There was also a set of colouring pens in the starter kit, but they have somehow become absorbed into my daughter’s art supplies. So instead I used my own personal colouring pens, which are cheap and cheerful WHSmith ones. They work a treat though, look at how well they cakes and rainbows have turned out!
It took me a few attempts to draw something that looked like a half a heart! The instructions are incredibly clear though, and it was actually very easy once I looked at the illustration properly.
More stamping fun. Then adding the little jewels. The tweezers are mine, though I only used them for two of the four jewels. The acrylic glue that came with the box had a fantastic fine nozzle, so it was very easy to just add a tiny blob of glue. There are also tons of extra jewels in the box!
Double sided tape is genius stuff. Until I started using the My Greeting Box cardmaking kit I never realised how useful it is! I always associated it with dodgy Blue Peter-type crafts, but it works perfectly for sticking everything together.
So after final sticking and trimming, the finished card!
What do you think? Personally I think it looks gorgeous!
Every time I make one of these cards I’m amazed at how good the results are. OK, that’s not very modest, but I don’t consider myself a particularly artistic or creative person. I like having instructions to follow, and minor hiccups (like misreading the instructions for the Fireworks Embroidery Card) have ultimately not mattered at all.
The instructions for these cards are always excellent, complete with helpful little illustrations. It requires some concentration to make sure I’m doing everything right, but the whole process is remarkably therapeutic.
Handmade cards are such a thoughtful thing to give, and this is a wonderful way to exercise your crafty muscles. A subscription would also make a lovely gift, and who knows, you might even be given a beautiful card in return!
