Review: Mila & Pheebs – July 2018 The Baking Box

Mila & Pheebs has a funky new box design!

Isn’t it bright and fabulous? (And yes, that picture is from my Instagram, couldn’t resist.)

Anyway, for July Mila & Pheebs came up with a delicious theme – The Baking Box!

You can see what’s in the box. And if you open open up that flyer…

… the newsletter is inside. I do like the newsletter very much. It’s brightly coloured, easy to read, and full of fun pieces of trivia, plus silly jokes perfectly pitched at a child’s sense of humour!

So let’s see what’s inside.

Mini Scented Highlighters. They smell exactly as you would expect, like fruit flavoured candy. The colours are nice and bright too.

Here’s the first of two Craft Kits. This is a Cupcake Mosaic Kit, and consists of a foam shape plus a whole load of tiny foam squares to stick on.

These are always fun to make, and also very good for fine motor control. We’ve always had fun with these when they’ve popped up in previous boxes.

I love the greeting cards that are always included in a Mila & Pheebs box. I think it’s incredibly important that children make their own cards – much more personal that something bought from a shop. So no excuse not to get your child creating!

Did you know the lovely Alexis (the woman behind Mila & Pheebs) does all the card embossing herself? I had no idea until we had a little chat via Instagram about it! Isn’t it lovely?

Another craft, this time Shrink Art. No, not paintings by a psychiatrist, but this cool plastic paper you draw on, cut out, then put in the oven. It magically shrinks down to a tiny size and turns your designs into little charms.

Oh, and the cupcake pattern on the right? That’s a fridge magnet!

These were the designs (Little C made the doughnut and cake, mine is the heart.) I realise I didn’t use anything for scale, but it’s a half-size baking tray. I used a hole punch to make holes in the top so they could be hung up.

And these were how they looked when they were ready! See how tiny they are? Very cool!

As always there are some very cool stickers (shiny holographic cakes of various kinds) and a cute mini eraser. This one is a doughnut, and looks to me like some kind of fabulous doughnut sandwich you’d find in a hipster New York bakery.

Colouring and puzzle sheets are always in the box. Love the cute pictures, and Little C is always very keen on word puzzles. Oh, and there’s a cute cupcake pencil too!

Finally, another competition! Design your own doughnut. Last month’s box included a creative competition as well, I think it’s terrific Mila & Pheebs are holding competitions now, it’s a great addition to all the goodies.

Little C had a lot of fun using the highlighters to make her crazy design!

I’m always very happy with Mila & Pheebs, but the one tiny thing I think is missing from this box is a cupcake recipe! OK, I know everyone can make a basic sponge, but I think it would have been an cute little extra.

But anyway, this is another lovely box of fun. Mila & Pheebs always create such a great collection of art and stationery items, which are wonderful for encouraging creativity. It’s also very good for adding to the sticker collection!

This box has all kinds of uses – to stash away as a treat, for a rainy day, for travelling, even to keep kids quiet at a wedding! It’s always a lovely experience going through it all, our eraser collection is growing nicely, and Little C has had all kinds of creative fun.

What a delicious treat!
