Mila & Pheebs create stationery and activity boxes for children. They contain a mixture of stationery, crafts, stickers, and fun items, based around a different theme each month. It’s £10 per month plus £2.99 P&P.
Ahoy there me hearties, we’ve been sailing the high seas with Mila & Pheebs! This month’s box has a fantastic theme – PIRATES!
Lots of goodies inside!
The newsletter is always a lot of fun. Jokes, trivia, all in a brightly coloured easy-to-read format.
Everyone loves stickers! A sheet of lovely shiny ones and some chunky foam stickers too, terrific for making a pirate picture.
There’s always some colouring and puzzle sheets. You can also see a design-your-own treasure map!
The shiny stickers were great to add to the map for extra colour.
Little C is very keen on the puzzle sheets, she loves word games of all kinds and these are always one of the first things she completes.
Mila & Pheebs always includes a couple of craft kits, and this keyring kit is a favourite!
Little C loves these keyrings, and is getting quite a collection of different versions from last December and August too!
I really like the blank cards included in each box. These are perfect for children to make their own cards for family and friends. The embossed nautical card on the left looks particularly effective!
The second craft kit this month is a DIY hand puppet. There were several different possible designs, and we got the parrot.
This is a very child-friendly kit. The holes are pre-punched, and the needle is plastic with a blunt end, so it’s very difficult to do any damage with it.
After sewing it all together, there are stickers to add for the head and face. Isn’t it wonderfully colourful?
There’s a fantastic pencil and eraser, with a real feather in the parrot’s tail. It also matches our puppet! You can never have too many pencils, and these themed ones are always specially fun to use. The little notebook has a the same picture on every page, faded so you can either use it to write in or to decorate each picture as you like.
Little C’s one bugbear here was that there were no girl pirates, so she added some more hair to this one!
Finally, we have this month’s cute mini eraser. This is a whale shark, and is a great addition to our growing collection!
This month’s theme is a lot of fun. There’s so much to do with it and so much to spark the imagination! The hand puppet is a great touch.
As I said, Little C wanted some girl pirates (I’ve taught her well!) but she enjoyed the activities very much.
Mila & Pheebs boxes are beautifully self-contained. There is a nice mixture of guided and free creativity, and there is very little mess generated, which is a big plus!
There boxes are available monthly, and they are very useful to have stashed for the inevitable rainy day (hey, it’s the UK, it rains a lot!) or perhaps as a reward.
I also think they are perfect for a bit of novelty on holiday or when travelling. They are compact enough to add to hand baggage on a plane or train. Add one to a standard kid entertainment kit of drawing paper and colouring pens (you should never leave home without them!), and you’ve got lots of fun and distraction.
As wedding season is approaching these would be great for younger guests, as there is plenty to keep them occupied while the grownups are throwing back the champagne! A box would also make a very superior party bag.
Mila & Pheebs boxes are technically for age six and up, but I think that they would be fine for younger children. There’s no cutting out, and while the degree of parental assistance might be greater, this is a lovely way to spend some fun and creative time together.
Our timbers have been well and truly shivered!
