Review: nomakenolife – January 2018 Japanese Beauty

nomakenolife is a monthly subscription box of Japanese cosmetics and beauty products. Japanese women take their skincare very seriously, and their beauty products are superb quality. They are also very big on products which contain natural ingredients, including collagen, and avoiding harsh chemicals.

It works like this: They have one-, three-, six-, and 12-month subscriptions costing $29.99, $29.00, $28.33, and $27.50 per month respectively. At current exchange rates this is £22.19, £21.46, £20.96, and £20.35. Shipping is free.

nmnl is part of the TokyoTreat group, who also produce TokyoTreat, a lovely box of Japanese snacks, and YumeTwins, an equally lovely box of Japanese kawaii goodies.

Photography has changed a bit this month. I’ve lost my lovely red background, so have had to use regular white. I’ve had some fun fooling with photo editing, so let me know what you think!

Anyway, on to the beauty box.

Great shipping box!

There’s a little glimpse into the box contents! On top you can see the menu booklet.

Honeil Cleansing Oil nomakenolife review – December 2017 Japanese Beauty Subscription Box

You might have noticed this bottle of Honeil Cleansing Oil in the picture above. The November box had a cleansing lotion from the same brand. I definitely prefer this version though!

The pump dispenser is incredibly useful; I love being able to use one hand when I’m doing my face (probably because I’ve got a book in the other hand!). I also really like the oil itself. My skin is on the dry side, especially in winter, and I find cleansing oil much more effective at retaining moisture in my face. I often use Garnier Oil-Infused Micellar Water, and this cleansing oil is even better. It also removes waterproof mascara, which is a great bonus, as I hate scrubbing at my eyes!

Beauty World Two-In-One Cool Glitter nomakenolife review – December 2017 Japanese Beauty Subscription Box

Beauty World Two-In-One Cool Glitter is a great way to add sparkle!

You have a tube of clear gloss and a little bottle of glitter. Add the glitter to the gloss and apply to eyes, cheeks, or lips! There was either a pink or silver version in the box, and this is the silver.

This is definitely fun makeup! My serious glitter-wearing days are behind me (yes, there was a time in my life when I actually wore glitter makeup for work) but now this would be great for a crazy party or dressing up. Of course, if you’re still a serious glitter person, have at it!

Mapepe Eyelash curler nomakenolife review – December 2017 Japanese Beauty Subscription Box

This Mapepe Eyelash curler is a really handy beauty tool. It’s got nonslip handles, and the buffer is soft silicone.

I’m really impressed that they’ve also included a little pack of spare buffers. This is an incredibly thoughtful addition to the box.

I’ve never actually owned eyelash curlers! First of all because they look to me like an instrument of torture, and also because I’ve always been afraid of pulling out my eyelashes. Many of my friends swear by them though. Finally, I’m extremely fortunate to have long eyelashes that curl naturally, especially when I’m wearing mascara. That being said, these are a great addition to my makeup bag, and now I’ve got no excuse to avoid using them!

Fiancee Fragrance Body Powder nomakenolife review – December 2017 Japanese Beauty Subscription Box

This product is a completely new one on me: Fiancée Fragrance Body Powder. I’m familiar with regular talcum powder, but I actually had to use Google to find out about scented body powder! It seems that the idea is to add a light scent to your skin, as well as absorbing moisture.

Fiancée is a range of Japanese scented beauty products including body mist, perfume, and body lotion. It has a light shampoo scent, which is very pleasant, subtle and sweet. The little compact is handy and non-messy, and I can see this being useful in the summer! It also has SPF 23.

Refresh Choco Mint Mask MochiPuru Strawberry Mask nomakenolife review – December 2017 Japanese Beauty Subscription Box

Finally, we have two lovely sheet masks! I’ve discovered sheet masks through nomakenolife, and they’re a revelation. These ones are called dessert masks, which makes sense as they’re sweet!

The MochiPuru Strawberry Mask contains camu camu fruit (a source of vitamin D) and squalane, which help to smooth and moisturize your face,

The Refresh Choco Mint Mask tightens the skin to help reduce lines, as well as refreshing and moisturizing.

I’m looking forward to trying these out, especially the strawberry one (picture on Instagram as usual!).

Well, I’m pretty happy with these things! My favourite things in nomakenolife boxes tend to be skin and haircare, as I find them much more practical. I’m slightly less keen on the ‘novelty makeup items’, such as the Jelly Belly eyeshadow in the September box. I think the glitter gloss falls into this category, but even so, I don’t mind having something else for the dressing up makeup box!

My favourites this month are definitely the Honeil Cleansing Oil and the sheet masks. I’ve always found Japanese skincare products to be superb, and the cleansing oil is perfect for my skin in this cold weather!

It’s a beautiful start to the New Year!
