Review: nomakenolife – November 2017 Japanese Beauty

nomakenolife is a monthly subscription box of Japanese cosmetics and beauty products. Japanese women take their skincare very seriously, and their beauty products are superb quality. They are also very big on products which contain natural ingredients, including collagen, and avoiding harsh chemicals.

It works like this:

They have one-, three-, six-, and 12-month subscriptions costing $29.99, $29.00, $28.33, and $27.50 per month respectively. At current exchange rates this is £22.44, £21.70, £21.20, and £20.58.

Shipping is free.

nmnl is part of the TokyoTreat group, who also produce TokyoTreat, a lovely box of Japanese snacks, and YumeTwins, an equally lovely box of Japanese kawaii goodies.

The shipping box is lovely. I think their branding is excellent, simple and stylish.

Their menu booklet contains information about each item. Ingredients, purpose, and where appropriate, instructions.

As the products are all straight from Japan, it’s extremely useful to have some guidance in English!

Everything’s packed up well. I’ve never had any damaged items.

Let’s have a closer look at the products.

Ginger Bath Salt nomakenolife Review November 2017 Japanese Beauty Unboxing

Ginger Bath Salts! I absolutely adore taking baths, so bath products are always a welcome addition!

There are three possible types of this bath salt, which all contain warming ginger and chili extract. Perfect as the weather is getting colder! My version here is ginger chai scented, containing milk and tea extracts, which have moisturizing properties.

Kakima 2 in 1 mascara liner nomakenolife Review November 2017 Japanese Beauty Unboxing

This month’s cosmetic is Kakima 2 in 1 mascara liner. The idea is you use the foam applicator to create a feathery lower-lash look without using false eyelashes. Of course it can also be used as regular eyeliner as well.

Rosy Rosa Oil Blotting Roller nomakenolife Review November 2017 Japanese Beauty Unboxing

This is very unusual item, a Rosy Rosa Oil Blotting Roller. Made from volcanic stone, it gently removes oil and dead skin cells from your face. It can be washed or wiped clean after use. I’ve only seen these on Asian websites, but they seem to be very popular as a convenient alternative to those anti-shine papers.

Honeil Cleansing Lotion nomakenolife Review November 2017 Japanese Beauty Unboxing

Honeil Cleansing Lotion does double duty as a moisturizer and a gentle exfoliator. It contains a multitude of soothing and moisturizing extracts including sunflower seed oil, honey, and royal jelly.

It’s gentle yet effective enough that you don’t need to use toner or rinse after using. I like the simplicity of this lotion, as I rarely have time for elaborate skincare routines.

Tonyu Isofurabon Point Masks nomakenolife Review November 2017 Japanese Beauty Unboxing

Sheet masks are becoming increasingly popular (last month’s box had a fantastic one!), and new varieties have been added which target specific areas of the face.

Tonyu Isofurabon Point Masks are designed specially for the delicate under-eye area. Like many Japanese beauty products these masks contain collegen, as well as hyaluronic acid to nourish delicate skin.

The resealable package contains ten pairs of masks.

Mapepe Big Ribbon nomakenolife Review November 2017 Japanese Beauty Unboxing

This last item is a a little kawaii accessory: Mapepe Big Ribbon

As you can see, it’s a little made-up bow you can either use to hold your hair out of your eyes or simply as a cute and fun addition to your outfit!

When I opened the package I thought it would have attach with a clip, but actually, it doesn’t.

It uses velcro! I wasn’t convinced it would work, but it actually sticks to your hair and stays in one place!

So this month there are six items in the box, rather than the usual five. The little bow is definitely the little extra bonus.

The roller thing is interesting. As I said, they seem very popular in Asia (there are a ton of different ones on Korean websites). My skin tends towards dryness, so I’ve never used anything like this, but it’s great to have the opportunity to use something new.

I really like the honey cleansing lotion. It’s incredibly gentle on my skin, and it’s perfect for night time as I don’t have to rinse my face afterwards.

The mascara/liner is very nice to use. The sponge applicator thing is lovely for creating a smoky effect. My only reservation is that I habitually use brown eyeliner as I find black a little harsh for everyday wear. Bath salts are always welcome. I think a combo of these and the eye masks are in the offing! The masks are definitely my favourite items in this box. I ‘m always slightly sleep-deprived, so it’s wonderful to have something that can help with the dark circles! (If you’re lucky, I’ll post another Instagram picture.)

There’s one thing I would like to see soon: more face wash please! Japanese face wash is the best I have ever used, and I’m nearly out of supplies. So I really hope nomakenolife include some more very soon!

Once again there is plenty of use to be had from the items in this box, and a good variety of tools, cosmetics, and treatment items. I always enjoy discovering new products, and this is a wonderful way of exploring new and exciting beauty products.
