The brightly coloured packaging is so appealing! Lets unpack.

Aerial Rich Chedder Cheese Flavor Aerial Rich Chedder Cheese Flavor TokyoTreat review Japanese candy snacks subscription box January 2018

This bag of Aerial Rich Chedder Cheese Flavor is a nice generous size! These crunchy textured corn snacks are coated with both cheese cream and cheese powder for an ultra-cheesy flavour.

Crunchy Panda Party Pack TokyoTreat review Japanese candy snacks subscription box January 2018

This Crunchy Panda Party Pack contains eight small bags of cute panda-shaped chocolate biscuits. There are 70 different panda faces, all cute and delicious. These are perfect for sharing (or portion control!).

Cream Rusk Snack Caplico Mini Ice Cream Flavored Snack TokyoTreat review Japanese candy snacks subscription box January 2018

These snacks are very popular in Japan. First, Cream Rusk. Rusk is odd-sounding but delicious, and consists of bread baked crispy with sugar on top. This version has a crunchy cream layer.

Caplico Mini Ice Cream Flavored Snack is designed to look like an ice cream cone. In fact, the wafer cone is filled with delicious bubbly chocolate, rather like an Aero bar. I got strawberry, my favourite, though chocolate and vanilla were also options.

Red Snapper Cracker Porinki Corn Snacks Red Snapper CrackerTokyoTreat review Japanese candy snacks subscription box January 2018

These are two savory snacks.

On the left is Red Snapper Cracker. Red snapper is a popular dish for New Year, so these crackers are a nice little nod to the season!

On the right we have Porinki Corn Snacks. These are a corn-flavoured corn snack, and while they are savory the corn almost has a tiny hint of sweetness.

Pizza Umaibo TokyoTreat review Japanese candy snacks subscription box January 2018

Pizza party anyone? Or rather Pizza Umaibo! Umaibo (my favourite ever Japanese snack) are crunchy corn puff tubes, and come in about a million flavours. This one really does taste remarkably like pizza!

Super Mario Chocolate TokyoTreat review Japanese candy snacks subscription box January 2018

Here’s Super Mario in Chocolate form! This is a solid slab of milk chocolate with crispy puff pieces inside. The slab breaks into pieces to give you the shape of Mario, so it looks like he’s breaking through a wall!

Slime Jelly DIY Candy Kit TokyoTreat review Japanese candy snacks subscription box January 2018

This Slime Jelly DIY Candy Kit sounds like it would be seriously appealing to children! You mix water and powder to create slime that becomes stretchier the more you stir it! It also changes colour as you mix. The flavour, when you’ve finished playing with it, is ramune (Japanese soda).

Vitamin C Charge Gummies Morinaga Hi-Chew Premium Chardonnay TokyoTreat review Japanese candy snacks subscription box January 2018

A popular Japanese candy is Hi-Chew, and as well as the regular small packs you can also buy a premium version in fancier bags. On the left is Morinaga Hi-Chew Premium Chardonnay, which taste of actual Chardonnay grapes. Perhaps a non-alcoholic alternative at your next party?

Vitamin C Charge Gummies, a sour lemon flavour gummies with a hit of Vitamin C, are on the right. I’m always tickled by the notion of ‘healthy’ candy, but I do like sour lemon!

Ramune Soda Candy Share Pack TokyoTreat review Japanese candy snacks subscription box January 2018

Another snack which is good for sharing, this Ramune Soda Candy Share Pack consists of five little bags of grape and orange ramune candy. The bags have adorable kawaii animals on the package, and as an healthy bonus, these candies contain extra calcium.

Hokkaido Design Coca Cola TokyoTreat review Japanese candy snacks subscription box January 2018

This is a special limited edition! Hokkaido Design Coca Cola is regular Coke, but the aluminium bottle has a special design and is only sold Hokkaido. It features popular sightseeing spots from this beautiful northernmost region of Japan.

Koala's March Kinako TokyoTreat review Japanese candy snacks subscription box January 2018

This is another New Year-themed snack! Koala’s March Kinako is a special edition of the popular cream-filled cookie snack. Kinako is roasted soybean flour, a rich and distinctive flavour frequently enjoyed on New Year’s Day. The packaging also includes Japanese New Year decoration motifs.

Well, these goodies are certainly going to get the new year off to a tasty start! There are fourteen snacks in this month’s box (counting the sharing packs as one each). Only four of them are savory; I do love savory snacks so I’d like there to be more, but at least one of them is a big bag!

It’s great there are a few little nods to Japanese culture and the New Year theme. I’ve definitely learned a little something, and there are definitely a couple of flavours I’ve not tried before!

Here’s to a tasty New Year!
