I’ve been lucky to have yet another lovely Your Sommelier wine box! Last month’s box was all red wine, but I’m delighted that this month is a mix of red, white, and rosé. The latter two are perfectly timed for the heatwave that’s hit the UK!
This is the Discovery Box, £36 per month including postage. The bottles are nicely packaged with lots of bubble wrap, and the outer box comes inside another box too.
On top you can see the three wine tasting note cards, plus an overview of this month’s featured region, Provence.
The tasting notes are very handy, and though they don’t include recipes like April’s box, there’s plenty of information on there.
The red wine in this month’s box is a Château des Bormettes Rouge 2016. It was moderately fruity, with a tiny bit of a savory edge. It wasn’t overly heavy, and was pleasant to drink, though I think it would be even more pleasant in cooler weather.
I first enjoyed this lovely To Be B Rosé 2017 Château de Brégançon in the bath, so of course I had to post it on Instagram! This was my first rosé of the summer, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It had beautifully sweet overtones without being overpowering, and just enough edge to counter the fruitiness. Fresh, light, and perfect for a summer day (or bath!)
You can probably see in the picture that this La Bargemone Blanc 2017 is rather pale in colour. The flavour is clear and fresh, and while I’m not usually very good at picking up specific flavours, I tasted a distinct combination of citrus and peach. Overall it was light crisp and light, and again, very nice for hot weather drinking!

It was such a relief to have a mixed wine box again. Don’t get me wrong, I do like red wine, and last month’s three were delicious, but I definitely find red wine a but of a struggle in hot weather.
I’m not sure I can choose between the white and the rosé as my favorite this month! They were both quite different, with the fruitiness of rosé and the delicious mild sharpness of the white. Both were ideally suited to summer weather, and I loved them both in completely different ways.
A wine box is so much more enjoyable than grabbing the first thing you see off the supermarket shelf. Comparing new flavours, and learning more about taste, is such a fascinating process. It’s the perfect way to pursue the pleasurable activity of drinking wine!
This was a great accompaniment to this beautiful hot weather, and a lovely way to discover new wines.
Thanks for reading! You can see what was in other Your Sommelier boxes here.
