Review: YumeTwins – February 2018 ‘Pretty Picnic’

YumeTwins is looking forward to spring with February’s Pretty Picnic box of kawaii goodies to brighten up this grey season! There have been a couple of lovely things trailed on social media, and I’m really excited because their menu booklet is back! More on that later, but just a quick bit of info:

Subscriptions start at $35 (£29.50) per month. You can see more pricing details here.

OK, let’s see what we’ve got this month!

We’ve got the full list of items, plus some fun trivia. There are also social media community pages and details of this month’s giveaway.

Hedgehog Plushie YumeTwins Review February 2018 kawaii subscription box

This month’s plushie is this adorable Hedgehog!

This is a brand new release, only available in Japan since December, and is just fantastically soft and furry. If you look carefully at the cover of the menu booklet you can see this little guy is one of the guests at the picnic!

This Sumikko Gurashi Melamine Cup is a very cute way to drink!

The adorable little characters are also printed on the inside. I especially like the little guy holding the bottle of soy sauce. He’s called Ebi Furai no Shippo, which means Fried Tail of Shrimp! Isn’t he lovely?

There are lots of different characters, and you can read a bit more about them here.

Here’s another handy thing for your picnic, a Sumikko Gurashi Kawaii Character Spoon.

There are four possible options, and this little guy is Shirokuma, a shy bear.

Well, we’ve got things to eat and drink with, now how about something to put our food in? This Disney Tsum Tsum Snack Container is perfect!

It’s just the right size for vegetable sticks, nuts, or other crunchy snacks. It’s also small enough to pop in your bag in case you want something to nibble on while you’re out and about.

I wouldn’t recommend actually eating this Disney Tsum Tsum Bread Squishie, but it’s certainly fun for playing pretend!

Japanese bakers make the most incredible animal bread rolls (google it, they’re too nice to eat!), and this is made to resemble one.

This is one of eight possible characters, though I can’t actually work out which one it is! Any ideas? It’s also got a handy little chain to attach to keys or bag.

The final item is this Colourful & Cute Highlighter. It has two nibs, a thick chisel nib and a fine nib, and while it’s possibly less use on your picnic it’s certainly a very useful thing to have around!

Well, I think this is one of the most thematically cohesive boxes I’ve ever seen! I love the picnic idea, and it’s really great to have so many practical items this month.

The hedgehog is of one my favourite plushies ever, coming a very close second to the daruma plushie in the January box. A soft hedgehog is such a fun idea, because the actual animal is super cute but of course not really cuddly! But this plushie guy is incredibly soft and huggable. His fur feels lovely, very similar to the softness of the JellyCat stuffed animals.

I’m not the only one who loves the hedgehog!

I love the cup and spoon. The cup will join our beloved Gudetama cup for morning milk drinking! I also really like the decorated inside, it definitely adds an extra dimension to the design. The spoon is a really useful size, the handle’s not too long and the hook really does work! Plus it just looks lovely.

The snack container is also a very useful size. Anyone who has a child will know that portable snacks are essential so this is definitely going to be well used!

The squishie is very cute, even though I can’t figure out the character. On a personal level I’m less keen on squishies as I like my kawaii to be useful or cuddly, but I know lots of people who will be fighting over it!

Finally, I don’t actually own a highlighter pen, so this is serendipitous! I dabble in bullet journaling, so this is a nice addition to my pen collection.

Oh, I must also add how happy I am that the menu booklet is back! When YumeTwins did a brand shakeup in October they switched to an online magazine with just a flyer in the box. A questionnaire was sent to subscribers a while back asking what they thought of the changes, and I can only think that they were inundated with requests to bring back the booklet. The booklet is such a nice tactile experience, and it contains more information than the online version, and I think it is a small but essential part of the experience. TokyoTreat did the same thing, and again has brought it back this month!

So huge kudos to YumeTwins for listening to their customers and responding so well!

This is a huge success, a great selection of gorgeous kawaii products, and the extra bonus of the menu! Great stuff YumeTwins!
