As it’s back to school season, I thought I would share an awesome little parenting hack with you!
(To read my full guide to school uniform labelling, click here.)
If your kid goes to a school that requires uniform, you know there are going to be a whole bunch of kids with the exact same stuff. Not just uniform, but bags as well.
How many times has your kid come home with somebody else’s bag or jacket? Little kids often just grab the first one that comes to hand.
But this simple hack means your kid can pick out their jacket or bag immediately, without having to check name labels. (And seriously, the only people who check name labels are adults.)
This is what you need.
Ribbon. A nice bright colour.
I bought this from Amazon. 25m, 10mm wide, and less than three quid.
One more thing.
Yep, scissors.
(I’m aware these are hairdressing scissors. They were conveniently to hand. I’m not even sure why I have them, because there’s no way I’m cutting anyone’s hair!)
All you need to do is cut a piece of ribbon around 10cm long and tie it on to the jacket zipper:
or bag handle loop.
Book bag, gym bag, and swimming bag.
I used this hack for the first time last year, and it worked perfectly. It was super-easy for Little C to spot her jacket and bags, and she always came home with the right ones. I could also do the same when it was my job to retrieve her belongings from the general muddle.
This year Little C has changed schools, which means new uniform, bags, and jacket.
As well as bags and jacket I had a lot of new clothes to label. I’ll be sharing my essential items for this boring but necessary job very soon!
