I love the packaging! There’s a gorgeous bright pink mailing envelope, and inside is this month’s craft kit, a card, and a lot of lovely tissue paper polkadots. It’s all very enticing…

So this is the kit – Cake Slice Charms!

There are three little cake slice bases, four blocks of polymer clay, glue, and various little decorative additions. There are also three attachments to make a necklace, bracelet, and keyring.

Can we take a moment to admire these miniature decorations? Tiny fruits, flowers, and candies. Aren’t they gorgeous?

So, let’s have a go at making them!

Here are all the bits ready to go on my craft mat. (Not quite as pretty as the fancy photographic background, huh?!)

The polymer clay gets soft very easily, though it’s surprising how little you need to squash on. I had a bit of trouble fitting it around the little ring on top, but figured I could hide any seams with decorations!

Once it was all squashed vaguely evenly, it was time to add the decorations! I didn’t have that much of a plan, but I thought sprinkles and glitter were a good start! The tiny lemon slices looked yummy, so I added a row of those too.

Also included was this tiny strawberry mould. It was quite fiddly to use, and I had to be very gentle to stop them being squashed, but eventually I managed to produce three little strawberries to put on the side of the chocolate frosted cake.

So three cake slices to decorate, but I still had quite a bit of clay left over. Naturally I couldn’t let it go to waste, so I decided to make…

… a candy pizza and a, erm, little creature!

I still hadn’t quite used up all the little decorations, but it was close enough.

Anyway, everything needed to go into a low oven to bake. This would harden the polymer clay, and the glue would dry clear.

And here are the final results! So cute!

This one was really great for creativity, not to mention fine motor control! Little things are so nice to make to have, and these are beautifully whimsical and sweet.

I really like being guided through the creative process, as I’m really not brave or experienced enough to go really off-piste with crafting. That being said, I was pleased to have some extra bits of clay and decorations left over, it made me really think about something else tiny but easy enough to make from scratch. It did push me a little bit out of my comfort zone, which is a really good thing.

This is a lovely way to have a bit of me-time, and to relax doing something a little bit different. I think it would also make a lovely gift for friends or loved ones who would like to try their hands at making things but don’t know where to start. Kits like this lovely Crafty Creatives (and My Greeting Box for greetings cards) are perfect for creating beautiful things by hand with confidence!
