Toppbox is a monthly box of men’s grooming and skincare supplies. They source products from great brands, and send a selection straight to your door. It costs £19 per month plus £3.35 P&P.
I’ve been very lucky to try out all kinds of wonderful skincare, but as this is a box for men, Big C has been kind enough to give me his opinion on these lovely things. (You’ll get my opinions too though!)
The box itself arrives in a jiffy bag, with some extra tissue paper padding. It always looks pristine when unpacked.
This is the menu card. It contains details about each item, plus the RRPs. I’ll include them with the individual pictures, as some are different sizes.
Christopher Courtney London Gentle De-Puff Eye Serum. £36 RRP.
As parents, Big C and I never have enough sleep, so anything that helps reduce the tired eyes is very welcome! It feels pleasantly light and non-greasy, but still nourishing. One thing though: the recommended one pump per eye is way too much. A single pump was enough for two pairs of eyes.
Balla for Men Body Powder, Tingle Formula. RRP €4.95 (reduced from the listed RRP of €6.95).
The description of this made me giggle: ‘..suitable for all areas of the body, whether for the boys downstairs, your pits, or your feet.’ Well, I’m not going to comments on any downstairs use, but it has a pleasant slightly minty smell which I assume is the ‘tingle’ formula. I don’t think powder is any kind of substitute for deodorant, but as the weather is getting warmer the freshness might be quite welcome.
Friendly Soaps Vegan Charcoal Detox Bar. £2.62 RRP.
This is made with all natural ingredients, including rosemary and lime essential oils. It doesn’t foam up enormously, but that’s because it doesn’t contain the nasty stuff that makes soap very bubbly. It has a lovely fresh scent, and despite the black charcoal, it doesn’t actually come off on you!
White Rabbit Skin Care Vegan Orange Blossom and Aloe Vera Toner. £25 RRP.
This is a lovely refreshing spray. It can be used before moisturizing as part of your regular skincare routine, or to freshen up your face during the day. I actually think it’s more effective used like that, especially as the weather is getting warmer. As a bonus, this is handcrafted, vegan, cruelty free, and all packaging is recyclable.
Eden Perfumes No. 168 Invictous Man 10ml. RRP £18 for 30ml.
Eden Perfumes specialize in recreating popular scents, but completely natural, vegan, and cruelty free. This one, the 168, is their most popular scent, and it is absolutely wonderful. It has noticeable layers of scent, and lasts incredibly well. Both Big C and I absolutely love this.
Sencha Green Tea bag. A freebie single bag, but 15 bags are £2.99 RRP.
This box, like last month’s, is another triumph! One of the most welcome things is that there are completely different items in each box, so you don’t end up with too much of one thing.
Every item is useful, and will be a great addition to my our Big C’s skincare stash. He’s not yet experimented with the Balla powder, but I’m pretty sure I can persuade him!
The charcoal soap is lovely to use, and cleans very well without drying out the skin. This is especially important for Big C, as he has quite sensitive skin and always uses products that are as gentle as possible.
The absolutely standout item this month is the perfume. Big C loved it so much that he has actually ordered a large bottle from their website! We both can recommend it highly, as not only is it ridiculously good value, smells simply delicious, but the company delivers very quickly. In fact, here is the link: Eden Perfumes 168. Check it out.
The value is excellent. The box costs less than £24 including P&P, and the value of the products is well above this. I happen to think that the prices of a couple of the items are a little excessive (the toner and the eye serum, at £24 and £36 respectively). However they are made in small batches from natural ingredients, and a far cry from the industrial processes of drugstore brands. I reckon that’s certainly worth extra!
Toppbox is extremely good as sourcing cruelty free and vegan products. They are also brands of whom you may not have heard, so it’s a great way to discover new products (Eden Perfumes being a great example of this!).
This is indeed a grooming box for men, but ladies, if you choose to buy this for the man in your life you can be assured you will be able to share! (If he’ll let you…)
