Weekend Box is a box of fun crafts and activities for children age 3 – 8. Briefly, it costs £8.95 per box including shipping, and includes four themed activities to Make, Bake, Explore, and More! You can read a bit more about it here.
This month’s theme is Dragons and Unicorns! Love a bit of fantasy and magic.
(Note: much like our recent Mud & Bloom, this was actually done over several days, which will explain the selection of clothes and hairstyles!)
The box is fun and brightly coloured, addressed directly to your child. Inside the four activities are neatly bagged, with a couple of extra large items separately.
Who doesn’t love unicorns? This Dancing Unicorn Puppet was the perfect craft to start with.
Templates were included in the box. Little C managed the cutting out, though younger children would probably need a bit of help.
(Oh, if you have a left-handed child, I thoroughly recommend buying them special left-handed scissors if you haven’t already.)
Then came the really fun bits. Attaching a mane and tail, and of course GLITTER! A glue pen was included in the box, which is much easier than a glue stick. It’s great for making patterns! Red glitter was included in the box, but Little C decided she wanted to go off-piste and raid our own glitter stash…
Little stars for the mane, and we had other colours too.
The finished result! Stars, gold, silver, and red glitter made for a beautiful unicorn. (Not to mention a rather glittery countertop.)
The ‘bake’ activity wasn’t really baking, but it was certainly making yummy things to eat: Unicorn Treats!
Melting chocolate over hot water definitely requires supervision, but all was well. I should say here that melting white chocolate is pretty tricky, so I added a bit of coconut oil to soften it up. Anyway, the grapes were dipped in the melted chocolate and then dipped again in the shiny red sugar.
Simple but looks cute and very delicious. Because of the coconut oil we managed to coat a few extra grapes too! (There may have been some extra sugar left in that little bowl.)
Our next activity was making a Wooden Spoon Dragon. For some reason I totally failed to take any pictures of this! (You can see it in the main picture above though.) It was a simple and effective idea. The wooden spoon was coloured green with the crayon, a face was added, then wings and tail were cut out of green foam and decorated with orange paper and stuck on the spoon. That craft foam is very easy to cut, which is great for little hands.
Anyway, on to the last activity.
Making a Fire Breathing Dragon! (Don’t worry, no actual fire was involved.)
More templates and cutting out. As well as the head shape there were also fins and eyebrows to cut out and stick on. Then it was time to draw on the face. Anything goes here! Little C used her white gel pen to really make the eyes stand out.
The final touch was sticking some orange tissue paper onto the face for the fire! (That’s not smoke round the mouth. That is a beard. Like Daddy, apparently.)
Little C also decided to use the dragon head template to make another unicorn – you can see it in the main picture.

This is another excellent Weekend Box. Three cute crafts plus something yummy to eat!
My one tiny gripe is that previous Weekend Box baking activities have been just that – baking. So all that needed to be provided was a bit of butter, which I always have in the fridge. This time I had to buy grapes when I went grocery shopping. It’s not a big deal, especially as we all love grapes, but ideally I prefer not to have to get any extras.
As always, Weekend Box is an entirely neutral theme. No ‘boy or girl’ nonsense, just fun things that would appeal to any child. The activities are easy but look very effective. While they will need adult assistance to some degree there is plenty to make sure the child feels in control of their creations.
The value is excellent, less than £9 per box. You can keep the booklets for inspiration for future crafting (and baking!) and there’s plenty to do. You can spend a fun afternoon with the activities, or something to have available when the creative mood strikes!

Looks like Little C busted me! OK, so she wasn’t the only one to have an extra taste of the sugar…
