The May YumeTwins box arrived a little later than usual. But as it turned out, the good weather returned just in time for this sunshine-themed box of kawaii goodies!
Subscriptions start at $35 (£29.50) per month. Read on to see what’s inside this month’s box …
It’s easy to guess who features in this month’s box!
I didn’t know Pompompurin was a Golden Retriever!
The menu booklet has all the usual lovely things, including a contents list, featured item, and some kawaii culture trivia.
And another bonus this month…
Another of my Instagram pictures of Little C is featured in the subscribers’ gallery! (She also had a picture in the March box menu magazine.)
Anyway, let’s have a look inside the box!
You guessed it, this month’s plushie is Pompompurin!
Like last month’s My Melody plushie, this is called a roll plushie, and is very nice indeed to cuddle. This is the second of a series of three Sanrio plushies, and I can’t wait to see what we have next month!
The squishy this month is a Taiyaki Squishy. A taiyaki is a traditional Japanese pastry in the shape of a fish, filled with red bean paste. You can read more about them here. I’ve not tried one of the actual pastries (though I’d really like to!). I have, however, tried a candy version of one, which is a fish-shaped wafer filled with light bubbly chocolate. (There was one in the January Bokksu.) They are really delicious!
Well, this looks fun!
It’s a Chick Kitchen Spoon standing on little feet! The holes for the face mean it wouldn’t work too well for spooning liquid. However if you look closely, you can see there are tiny little bumps all over it. These are common on Japanese rice paddles. They are usually shallow like this one, and the bumpy surface apparently stops the rice from sticking. I suspect that it’s been labelled a kitchen spoon for the Western market, but it looks (except for the shape) exactly like a Japanese rice server. It’s pretty handy if you eat a lot of rice! Of course it also looks pretty cute just standing there.
These cute little stickers are Hologram Cafe Stickers. There are a selection of lovely puddings and drinks, plus a couple of larger ‘blackboard menu-style’ stickers. The food items are quite tiny, but there are loads of stickers. Despite their small size they look almost good enough to eat!
There were several different designs of this Japanese Canvas Tote Bag. This one has these cute little kitties carrying… something, I’m not quite sure what! Anyway, it’s a fun design. The bag itself is really more of a mini tote. However the fabric is pretty thick and sturdy, and it’s got a little pocket inside too.
This is a Kawaii Leisure Sheet. Again, there were several design options, but I got Sumikko Gurashi.
It’s a pretty good size, and made from a kind of woven plastic so it seems pretty durable. Plus the design is awesome, a map with lots of little Sumikko Gurashi characters on it!

While only a couple of this month’s items are yellow (as mentioned in the theme) I think they are all great fun, and definitely summery!
The plushie is lovely, of course.
Lots of cuddles going on here!
I’m never that bothered about the squishys, but I know lots of people collect them. Mine always go to a happy home!
The spoon is cute, and surprisingly useful. My husband eats a lot of rice, and I’ll see if I can persuade him to use it. Its one disadvantage is the feet, which make it take up more space, though they certainly look funny!
I really love the bag, but I wish it was bigger! As it is, it’s rather like a little handbag or lunch bag, though it would be the perfect size to carry a little picnic in, perhaps even using the bento box from the February box!
My favourite item is the leisure mat. Being plastic it would give good protection on damp ground, though it’s not big enough to lie on. And in hot weather it might get a bit sweaty! But I think it would be marvellous for picnic food. Being plastic it would wipe down very easily so no worries about crumbs or the inevitable spillages. A remarkably useful item, and of course very kawaii!
Now the weather has cheered up we’ll be able to go on picnics, and the mat is going to come in very handy. I can even see it being used in the garden.
Once again, YumeTwins has come up with a very nice mixture of cute and practical items, with a nice summery feel!
