Lootaku is a premium monthly geek and gamer subscription box from Hong Kong. Cost is $44.99 per month. It usually has an emphasis on manga and anime franchises, though they do branch out from time to time!
Lootaku’s January theme is Glamorous Heroines! There are plenty of awesome female characters in the anime world, so this is fantastic direction to take.
I love their treasure chest box!
Some great looking figures here!
Glitter and Glamours Dragon Ball Z Android 18 figure in separate pieces: body, head, and stand. It stands just under 10 inches assembled.
The Glitter and Glamours range is relatively new, and showcases female characters in their battle clothing. (December’s Box had a One Piece figure from this range.)
Android 18 appears in both the Dragon Ball Z manga and anime series. You can read more about her here.
This figure is from Taito, a longstanding Japanese video game developer.
Unfortunately the end of the sword handle arrived broken! This is very unusual, as I don’t think I’ve ever had anything broken before. Looking at the sword, this little piece seems to be very fragile, so it’s not that surprising that it broke. I should point out that Lootaku will always replace any item that arrives damaged. Anyway, here’s the figure itself.
This is Fate/Apocrypha Saber of Red. The figure comes with the sword and stand separate, and stands a little over 7 inches. It’s a great dynamic pose with some lovely detailing.
The final figure is actually a minifigure, one of a random selection of six.
This one is Maiya Hisau from Fate/Zero. It’s a small figure, around 2 inches tall.
Replica swords are a popular anime and manga item (see October and August). They always come with a keychain attachment, because it’s illegal to send blades through the mail, no matter what size!
This is One-Cut Killer: Murasame from the manga Akame Ga Kill. It comes in three pieces, including the stand, and you can see the little keychain attachment. It doesn’t actually distract from the sword itself, which looks great, but it could easily be removed if necessary.
The final item is very different! It’s a cushion cover featuring Bulma and Goku from Dragon Ball Z. This is a very cute item, but it has a slightly sad story behind it. This has been included in the box in memory of Hiromi Tsuru. She voiced Bulma for over 30 years, and died at the end of 2017.
Lootaku is a premium box, and always contains excellent quality figures. They are frequently unavailable outside Asia, and many are very new releases. The price, including UK shipping, is $62.65, which usually works out between £42 and £45, depending on the exchange rate. I’ve always found the box contents value at anything other than way beyond the box price. For example, I found the Android 18 figure on Amazon (coming from Japan) for £34. The only place I could find the cushion cover was at a Hong Kong/US website where it cost $35.99! Anyway, I’m in no doubt that Lootaku is always superb value for money.
As to my feelings about this month’s box, I’m in two minds.
I love the theme, I think it’s wonderful to focus on female characters for a change! On the other hand, I’m not really familiar with these franchises, so I’m not that excited by them. However I’m thrilled that they’ve included another non-figure item because when Lootaku go off-piste, they do it really well!
