The box was bursting at the seams this month!

Wombat-san & Friends Large Daruma Plushie YumeTwins review January 2018 Japanese kawaii subscription box

This is the gorgeous thing that popped out of the box! This month’s plushie is huge (even bigger than last month’s plush), and is one of the Wombat-san & Friends Large Daruma Plushie series. Wombat-San & Friends are a group of cute animal characters: Wombat-san, Platypus-san, Koala-san, Devil-san, Fairy Penguin-san, and Kiwi-san.

This little guy or gal is Fairy Penguin-San.

A daruma is a figure that is often seen during the New Year season throughout Japan, and is considered a symbol of good luck.

(You can read more about the daruma doll here.)

Disney Tsum Tsum Cute Calendar YumeTwins review January 2018 Japanese kawaii subscription box

As it’s New Year, what better thing to have than a calendar? This Disney Tsum Tsum Cute Calendar is perfect!

The cardboard backing opens out into a stand, but I think it would probably be nice to hang it up somewhere, as we don’t have that much spare surface area at home! Plus Little C has her eye on this too…

Bread Animal Squishies YumeTwins review January 2018 Japanese kawaii subscription box

This little thing is a Bread Animal Squishie. Japanese bakeries often sell amazing animal-shaped bread rolls. If you Google them you’ll find some incredible pictures, they look far too beautiful to eat!

This is one of eight possible animals. It’s supposed to smell like bread as well, but to be honest, I can only smell the normal, slightly chemical smell that all squishies seem to have.

Disney Princess Nail Clippers YumeTwins review January 2018 Japanese kawaii subscription box

These Disney Princess Nail Clippers are both cute and extremely practical!

OK, I know Alice isn’t technically a Disney Princess, but never mind.

I keep my nails very short, and use nail clippers all the time (no emery boards for me!) so I can never have too many sets!

These are great quality, very sharp indeed. They are on the large side as well, they could easily be used for toenails.

Oh, and they are made by Green Bell, which apparently is one of the world’s best manufacturers of metal cutting goods!

Marumofubiyori Clear File YumeTwins review January 2018 Japanese kawaii subscription box

Here’s another practical item, a Marumofubiyori Clear File

Marumofubiyori is one of Sanrio’s newest character series, and this file features Moppu and his little friends.

This file is a very cute way to organize paperwork!

Gudetama was heavily trailed as a featured character this month, which I was really excited about, because Gudetama is my favourite kawaii character ever!

Gudetama Folk Tale Food is a series of blind boxes that feature Gudetama in a fusion of Japanese food and folklore.

Inside the box! Various little pieces to put together. It also contains a little piece of gum.

This is what it becomes! According to the box, this is the Hot Pot.

According to the magic of Google, a Japanese Hot Pot is, as you would imagine, a large pot of hot soup or stew, served at the table and shared by friends and family. It is considered the most sociable way to eat. I guess Gudetama is taking the the social thing one step further by actually sitting in the pot with his little bear friend! Because I don’t read Japanese I don’t know the meaning of the little bag, wig, or red tie, but it’s still super-cute, even if it is tiny!

I think YumeTwins have made a great start to 2018. It’s great that they have a theme (I love themed boxes!) and most of the items definitely fit in!

It might sound odd, but I think my favourite item is actually than nail clippers! This is something I use all the time, and they are really good quality.

I was very excited at the prospect of Gudetama, and while I think the tiny figure is both cute and interesting, I sort of wish it had been something bigger. Gudetama plushie soon please YumeTwins?

Squishies I’m not so interested in, but fortunately I know some teenagers who are obsessed with them, so the little bear will definitely find a happy home!

One of the things I want to do in the New Year is to be more organized with paperwork, so I’m hoping the file will help motivate me!

The calendar is definitely cute, though the boxes are a little to small to be of any real practical use. However I think Little C will get a huge kick out of it, so I suspect it will end up on her wall.

Speaking of things Little C loves…

Wombat-san & Friends Large Daruma Plushie YumeTwins review January 2018 Japanese kawaii subscription box

Yep, guess who’s grabbed the plushie!

It really is a gorgeous one, incredibly soft and squeezable, and impressively large! I can see why the other items are relatively small.

I also really like the cultural aspect of this plushie. I’ve seen daruma dolls before, but I didn’t actually know what they signified. So I also feel like I’ve learned something new!

Have a happy and kawaii New Year!
